With a sunny and crisp weekend forecast, we headed to Somerset on the train from Waterloo. Our bikes came with us for a lovely long weekend.
The 14 mile ride from the station to the village was cool and grey, but the lanes were beautiful and traffic free.
On Sunday we managed a nice long ride in the much cooler conditions. Fleecy bike clothing is now required!
It was great coming back to the thick and warm stone walls of the family house. And the aga supplied continuous stews, roasts, mince pies and apple cake made with apples from the neighbor’s tree.
Life in the country on the weekends is perfect. Quiet and easy outdoor pursuits. Amazing autumn landscapes. Big warm kitchens full of delicious things. And all within a quick 2 hour train ride from London. It really helps restore the balance of city life.
