Today was the first cold day of the season. I mean all the accessories were essential: mittens, scarf and hat. But it was sunny and still double digits so it was necessary to get outside.
Soon getting on a bike will involve frozen feet and fingers, which put the coldest day so far into context. We cycled to Finsbury Park and hopped on the Capital Ring Trail which takes you up to Highgate via an abandoned railway line. The trail extends around sections of London, a goal for next weekend? It was okay to ride on my road bike and not too muddy yet. The rockiness might make it last all through winter.
Once in Highgate, you are only a skip away from Highgate Wood (also two mins from Highgate tube). A walk around the wood and a quick stop for croissants at the pavilion cafe was the perfect Sunday afternoon outdoor activity.
On the way home, a quick pitstop at Fred and Fran in Stoke Newington. Amazing carrot cake and coffee. Very cosy. Almost wish it was my local.
